6 Steps to find a rental apartment in Copenhagen

Yes, we know as well as you that this is one of the hardest things to do when moving to Copenhagen: finding a rental apartment.
6 steps to find a rental apartment in Copenhagen
But this is not only difficult for you, it is also difficult for Danish citizens and therefore for people who came to Copenhagen many years ago. But don’t panic! We are here to help you.
What are the 6 steps to find a rental apartment in Copenhagen? First of all, I would like to show you the different ways you can use to find a rental apartment in Copenhagen:
The easiest way…
is to have a large Danish network, but we can imagine that’s not your case, right?
Another option…
is to do a lot of market research, which takes a lot of time. Maybe you have that time, maybe you don’t. And if you do have that time, then you need to be selected to visit apartments, and that’s also difficult to do if they don’t know you.
There are other options:
There are other options, such as large moving agencies that usually help expats moving to Copenhagen with everything they need to do at the beginning, such as finding an apartment to rent. In this case, you can expect to get an apartment by paying a fee of around 6000 Dkk – 11000 Dkk (sometimes even more). They usually offer a maximum of viewings in the first week (around 5) and do not guarantee success.
Of course, it is not possible (ever!) to guarantee success, as there are many variables at play.
The last, and easiest option …
to find an apartment is the one we offer you (of course, we were not going to say otherwise) Yes, we help you find a flat. Why? Because when we moved from Spain to Copenhagen in 2014, it wasn’t easy for us to settle in, so I decided to create «Bienvenido a Copenhague» (Welcome to Copenhagen) for all those Spanish families like us that needed help at the beginning.
And now, after 3 years managing the company, and learning a lot about the rental market at CPH, we have gained a lot of knowledge and collaboration with more than 70 companies in permanent contact, and we help people like you, from many different countries.
I can say that we do it very well and many people think the same, as you can see in our Facebook Page. (I hope that Google translate can help you to understand it). Then, this is the reason why our website is mainly in Spanish, now turning also into english here. And, if you can speak English, Spanish or Danish, of course we can help you, regardless of the country you come from.
We have already helped more than 500 families, from Spain, Argentina, Chile, Poland, Denmark, UK, Portugal, Brasil, Dominican Republic, Morocco, USA…and many more.
This is not expensive, because we didn’t want to be a re-locator, oriented to big companies, but to particulars. It costs 1600 dkk to start the service and 1600 more, if we can finally find your home. That’s all. Nothing else.
It lasts 15 days, and during these days we will be in contact very frequently, especially during the first few days. Likewise, the first two days are when the largest number of offers appear, unless your search is very complicated, which may take a little longer.
We will arrange visits to the flats that suit you best. We need you to be accessible, otherwise we may lose good options.
We can also offer you other search options, 45 days and 3 months, in case you want to do it well in advance.
But that’s not all. Once you’ve decided to book an apartment, if you don’t speak or read Danish, we’ll explain the contract and the most important points you can find in it, and you’ll be ready to understand how the rental market works in Denmark. It doesn’t cost anything extra.
And we also explain, if you need it, how to change your CPR address in time to avoid possible fines for not doing so on time and how to change the ownership of the electricity after the move. And it doesn’t cost you anything extra.
If you want to know, what are the 6 Steps to get a rental apartment in Copenhagen, please, continue reading.

The 6 Steps to get a rental apartment in Copenhagen, are always the same:
- Search the web (avoid Facebook or DBA.dk, as there are a lot of SCAMS to be found here)
- Attend viewings (if you want to have a chance of getting the apartment, it is almost always mandatory to visit it)
- Make a reservation (they send you a draft contract and a deadline for making the first payment, which includes the deposit, the first rent and sometimes an amount paid in advance). Remember to check the contract which MUST BE IN DANISH. And especially understand point number 11, with the special requirements of the apartment.
- Send the signed contract, before the deadline.
- When they have received the money, they will send you the signed contract and agree on a date for the handover of keys.
- The apartment is yours. But remember to do a good inspection in the first 14 days, so you can minimize future problems, when you move in.
