At Bienvenido a Dinamarca, we invite you to play a game to practice your Danish. You need to be able to pronounce these phrases without getting tongue-tied—do you accept the challenge? Have you ever felt like your tongue knots up when trying to pronounce a Danish sentence?

Don’t worry, it happens to all of us. Danish is a beautiful language, but its sounds can be a real labyrinth for learners. That’s why, at Bienvenido a Copenhague, we want you to put your grammar books aside for a moment and just have some fun playing.
1. The Rite of Passage: The Impossible Dessert
- Phrase: Rødgrød med fløde.
- Translation: Red porridge with cream.
- The Secret: The key lies in the “soft d” (blødt d). It is not a hard “d” like in English or Spanish, but a much more relaxed sound, almost as if the tongue doesn’t quite touch the roof of your mouth.
- You can listen to how it is pronounced here.
2. The Fish Market
- Phrase: Friske fisk, friske fisk.
- Translation: Fresh fish, fresh fish.
- The Secret: This is a classic for practicing speed. The challenge is to avoid ending up saying “fisk-fisk” the whole time and to clearly articulate both the “s” and the “k”.
3. Poetic (and Difficult) Nature
- Phrase: Bløde, blege bøgeblade.
- Translation: Soft, pale beech leaves.
- The Secret: This one trains long vowel sounds and the letter “b”. It is pure gymnastics for your jaw.
4. The Masked Mystery (Expert Level)
This is a Danish favorite when they want to test someone who claims they already “speak a little” Danish. It is long and rhythmic, making it perfect for practicing fluency.
- Phrase: Da de demaskerede den demaskerede, demaskerede de den demaskerede demaskerers demaskering.
- Translation: When they unmasked the unmasked one, they unmasked the unmasking of the unmasked unmasker.
- The Secret: Here, the challenge is the constant repetition of the “de” sound. You have to maintain the rhythm without letting the words pile up. It requires pure air and tongue control.
We leave you another link HERE where you can listen to some tongue twisters; we hope to bring a smile to your face.
Finding Housing in Denmark
On the other hand, finding a place to live can be one of the biggest challenges when arriving in Denmark. Did you know that it’s not easy to find a shared apartment, that pets are often not allowed, and that there are almost no apartments for rent in downtown Copenhagen?
We believe this is a complex process that differs from that in other countries, especially Spain. That’s why we encourage you to request information about finding housing in Denmark—we’d be happy to help.
